Prior to the Gossip painting I completed a series of totem pole paintings inspired by the works of aboriginal artists from the Westcoast of British Columbia. This painting depicts a Snuneymuxw First Nations pole that had succumbed to age and decay. It was laid to rest through a reconnection ceremony during which it was placed on the ground in a visible location to return to the earth close to the site where it stood for so many years.
